Friction vs. security is at the heart of every identity verification and authentication discussion right now, but how do you know what the right balance is for your specific business and customer needs?
We recently sat down with Paul Jones, Senior Director of Technical Services at HID Global to discuss all things digital identity authentication. Paul sits in the IT security department, focussing on authentication and how to protect people when they interoperate via a digital or mobile channel.
Paul highlights the importance of deciding what level of authentication is applicable for what market. For example, an organisation working in developing countries may decide that they are going to use SMS because most people might not have a fully featured phone. We also discussed the secret key in the ongoing friction vs. security debate, and how use different sets of authentication keys behind the curtains.
When asked about future trends, Paul also shared interesting thoughts on the shift away from passwords to minimise accounts compromised, passwords stolen, credit card numbers stolen and much more.
If you don’t have a password, then it can’t be stolen. It’s that simple!
